SKILL-BUILDING MATERIAL

The following educational and therapeutic skill-building material has all been designed and developed by me and employed with Ashley every step of her recovery. From teaching her to talk through the use of a choice board, to calming her down with a weighted blanket to working on her sensory integration issues and fine motor skills, I have seen the benefit of these products, and so will you. These products are being used by parents and professionals with wonderful results.

VELCRO ACTIVITIES These activities are designed to work areas of visual discrimination, critical thinking, counting, motor planning and vocabulary.

A. Shadow Shapes - $20.00

Match the colored shape to its black and white image.  Great visual discrimination.  All pieces firmly held with Velcro.

  

 

B. Weather Time - $20.00

Place one of each weather condition on the left side of the line.  Have the child add the remaining pictures that best corresponds with that weather condition.  All pieces held firmly with Velcro.

  

 

C. Lunch Time - $20.00

It looks like a sandwich but it’s a counting activity (1 piece of bread on the  bottom, one piece of lettuce, 2 pieces of cheese, 3 pieces of bologna, 4 tomatoes and top it off with more lettuce and bread.  Each piece held firm with Velcro.  It’s fun, educational, looks delicious, but unfortunately not edible.

  

 

D. Pizza Time - $20.00

This favorite is also a counting exercise.  Build your pizza and incorporate numbers at the same time.  (2 green peppers, 3 mushrooms, 4 olives, 5 strands of cheese, 6 pepperoni).  All pieces held firmly with Velcro.

  

 

E. Fruit Salad - $20.00

Take the pieces off and have the child fill the bowl with his or her favorite fruits.  Work on vocabulary, color, grip.  All pieces held firmly with Velcro.

  

 

F. Ice Cream - $20.00

After a sandwich or pizza, it’s time for desert!  Build a sundae.  More counting skills here.  3 scoops of ice cream, 2 bananas, and 1 heaping helping of hot fudge. Don’t forget the cherries!

  

 

G. Find My Opposite - $15.00

 

A two sided Velcro activity. (8 matching sets : boy/girl; empty/

full; sad/happy; big/little; night/day; back/front; open/close; new/old)

  

 

H. " I Belong To" - $15.00

A two-sided Velcro activity. (8 matching sets: match the correct object with its counterpart. Works on association, vocabulary – contains pictures of seal/ fish; bee/flower; puddle/rain; cowboy/hat; web/spider; nest/bird; landing pad/helicopter; squirrel/nut.

I. Empty/Full - $15.00

A two-sided Velcro activity. (8 matching sets: match the correct container with its “full” or “empty” counterpart. Works on quantity, vocabulary, visual discrimination – contains pictures of cup, bag, bowl, vase, suitcase, wagon, box and glass.

  

 

Sorting Big and Little - $22.50

 

This activity is designed to learn to sort objects

by visual discrimination of big and little. Work on vocabulary as well.

  

 

Sorting Colors (A) - $13.50

 

This activity is to work on color discrimination by matching the appropriate colored object to that of its corresponding color on multicolored cards.  5 objects per color card. Also works on vocabulary and counting. 

  

 

Sorting Colors (B) - $13.50

 

Match colored chips to their respective colored cup.

  

 

Peg Board With Shapes and Elastic Bands - $26.50

This activity not only works hand/finger strength by stretching colored bands across a peg board, but has a dual purpose activity of sorting, stacking and manipulating shapes and colors over the pegs. 12” x 12” board

  

 

Alphabet Time - $19.50

 

This activity works on language.  26 pictures representing each letter of the alphabet are given and not only provide an opportunity to learn new words, but the beginning letter of each word must be matched up correctly with its corresponding picture to familiarize the child with the sounds of the word.  The word is also given to add another level of difficulty and challenge to the activity at the appropriate time for the child.

  

 

Farm Animal Concentration - $12.00

 

Turn all cards face down. Turn over two at a time to find a match. If no match is found, turn cards back over and begins search again. Works on memorization skills, concentration and vocabulary.

Write and wipe writing guides designed to help the child newly learning to write work on control with a writing instrument as well as tracking with his/her eyes (not pictured).

Kit filled with materials such as ping pong balls to blow across a table and pinwheels to work on blowing, bubbles, whistles, straw & paper for suction work.

  

 

Sensory Blanket - $85.00

 

Approx. 3’x3’ with boxes of different tactile material so as to increase the tactile stimulation and enhance awareness and decrease sensitivities to different textures.

Weighted Blanket - $170.00

 

Approx. 3’x5’ and approx 9 lbs filled with rice to place over a child in the daytime while sitting and/or playing or at bed time to add deep pressure to calm and organize the child.  Duvet cover comes off and is washable.  Velcro opening.  Custom made. (price may vary depending on materials).   Please specify in separate email if you want this for a boy or girl. Material will be matched to gender.

  

 

Therapy Kit (fine motor) - $16.50

 

This kit contains items from silly putty & buttons to work on finger strength; to picking up beads with tweezers to work on grasp and control; to pinching open clothes pins and securing them on the container, sandpaper numbers for tactile work, & nuts and bolts for finger control.  All activities are designed to work on strength, pinch/grip, sensory and motor planning. (kit may contain different material than shown here).

  

 

Communication Book - $85.00

 

A small portable book of approx. 70 picture cards of foods, daily hygiene activities, toys, games and songs to use to communicate in exchange for that activity.  With Velcro backs and Velcro on the outer cover to house 3 choices (plus 1 “I want” card), this communication system allows therapist and child or parent and child to begin communicating via pictures.  Can be custom made to meet your needs. (sample of cards: “go outside”, “hug Mommy”, “go to playground”, bike/tricycle, swing, wagon, Playdough, draw/arts&crafts, “blow bubbles”, “read a book”, “throw football”, telephone, “go to school” and so many more.

Counting and Visual Perception - $15.00

 

Place objects on a grid whose rows increase by 1 box until 10 is achieved to practice counting and understand amounts that each number carries.  A dual activity on  the flip side is placing strips (w/ Velcro to adhere it) of varying length across the correct number of boxes in each row that correspond to the length of that strip (in boxes).  Visual discrimination as well as learning about superlatives greater/less than/short and long are incorporated into this activity.

Popsicle Stick Counting - $7.00

 

Count out the number of Popsicle sticks that correspond with the number for each box 1 - 10.  The boxes get progressively larger with each number to accommodate that many sticks.

  

 

Number Time - $27.50

 

Numbers 1-20 are given along with pictures of familiar objects.  Match the number of objects on each card with its corresponding number.  For an additional degree of challenge, beads are provided to count out and place next to each number and picture.  This task grows with the  child as you would first have them put the numbers in order from 1-10. As they progress, add the cards to match the numbers and then bring in the counting beads.

  

 

Sandpaper Letters and Numbers - $22.50

 

The teaching of sounds and letters is through a multi-sensory approach.  The child hears the sound, sees its representation in the form of the letter and feels the way it is written. Trace each letter and number with the child’s finger to learn properly formed writing of both and to promote good habits in handwriting.
