My education has been in the sciences. With a
Bachelors degree in Biology and a Masters in Biotechnology Management, I
have over 16 years of experience in the field of clinical research for the
government and the private pharmaceutical industry bringing new drugs
and devices to the public for an enhanced quality of life. Though
this may have been the fuel for me to research every aspect of Ashley's
disorder and find a myriad of therapies to treat her, it doesn't take
this type of degree to help your child. If you have love, and we
all do for our children, it's all you need to get started.
Nothing has been more challenging or important to
conquer in my life than this disorder. The journey that I embarked
upon over 6 years ago has been a long and arduous one. Now, as a
consultant, I bring to families my personal involvement with Ashley's
disorder, how it was orchestrated, the highs and the lows (and we experienced
so much of both) and the dramatic outcome of her recovery.
Not only do my personal
experiences with this disorder provide guidance and education to
parents, but I have completed the intense three-week Tomatis
training course plus personal listening work (over 130 hours of
education and training) as well as I am certified in The
Listening Program (TLP) and am a provider of TLP systems
with bone conduction. These courses have afforded me the
knowledge to speak about auditory training, how re-training the
ears to listen actually works and what this type of therapy can
do for children with special needs.
Although Ashley's journey is now over, my
mission to help other parents and give them guidance, support,
and extend that ray of hope is just commencing. I look forward
to working with all of you.
